Re: Julian Romero

Thanks for your response Julian..
Acer Aspire 4376 was designed for Windows Vista, when You tried to install Windows XP on it, this laptop cannot detect the harddrive.
Windows XP require drivers written by the host bus adapter vendor in order to support AHCI. Windows XP requires the installation of a vendor-specific driver even if AHCI is present on the host bus adapter because Windows XP was released before Serial ATA was invented. You must install these driver first:
SATA DRIVER

But to install these driver need the external floppy drive. Copy the driver to floppy first, then plug the drive to usb and instal the sata driver.

You also can install windows XP on Acer Aspire 4736 without USB floppy drive, just include the SATA driver to your Windows XP CD using nLite. Download nLite here nLite is a tool for permanent Windows components removal and pre-installation Windows configuration. After removal there is an option to make bootable image ready for burning on cd or testing in virtual machines.
With nLite you will be able to have Windows installation which on install does not include, or even contain on cd, the unwanted components.

Features
* Service Pack Integration
* Component Removal
* Unattended Setup
* Driver Integration * (we need this)
* Hotfixes Integration **
* Tweaks
* Services Configuration
* Patches ***
* Bootable ISO creation

Read nLite guides here

Please follow step by step configure the sata driver into xp bootable cd at the nLite guides. And then install with your new XP Driver which integrated with sata driver.

Good Luck.

I acquired a unit of Acer Aspire 4736Z and replaced the OEM OS Vista with XP Professional 32-bit. I was avle to replace all the drivers except that for the network controller. This prevents me from getting wifi capability.

I checked the device with a downloaded device identifiier which yielded Atheros as maker. The device ID confirmed the scan.

Incidentally, the ethernet controller is also an atheros device. For this, I was able to secure the appropriate driver.

Will appreciate if you can help me with this problem. Many thanks.
